THE JOURNEY

Turkey → Vietnam

Starting in Istanbul,Turkey this July, five mates and I will begin a 14,000km journey by bicycle to Vietnam. The ride will take us through 13 countries, countless cultures, remote landscapes and long mountain roads. Most nights will be spent sleeping in tents — and on the colder ones, it may become a three-boys-to-one-tent sort of arrangement.

My Mission

As I reflect on the journey ahead, it seems incredible — almost impossible — that such a simple mechanical tool could carry everything needed to survive while crossing an entire continent, all while hopefully delivering the occasional moment of fun.But that is the revelation: a bicycle is ultimately just a tool. It is what people are able to do with a bicycle that makes it truly powerful. For that reason, I’ve partnered with World Bicycle Relief and Intrepid Foundation and will be using this journey as an opportunity to raise money for an organisation creating life-changing access to mobility around the world.

Why World Bicycle Relief ?

World Bicycle Relief is an international non-profit organisation that provides specially designed bicycles to people in rural communities where distance is a major barrier to education, healthcare and economic opportunity. Rather than distributing standard donated bikes, World Bicycle Relief develops durable bicycles built specifically for difficult terrain, heavy daily use and easy local maintenance. Their programmes help students reach school faster, healthcare workers travel further and families gain greater access to work and essential services.Every USD $165 raised helps provide a purpose-built bicycle to someone in need — creating reliable, long-term access to education, healthcare and opportunity.

Follow the Journey

Over the 14,000km ride from Turkey to Vietnam, I’ll be sharing updates from the road across Instagram — the good days, the hard days and the days you simply can’t plan for.Expect remote mountain passes, chaotic border crossings, roadside camp setups, mechanical disasters and hopefully the odd beautiful moment where everything just falls into place. The world’s a beautiful place filled with beautiful people and life is just one big adventure.Follow along and support the journey below.
